Winter is one of the best times of year for most things. But when it comes to my skin and how hydrated it is. It’s one of the worst. I recently put up a post of a haul of these products, you can check that out >>here<<. And I talk about my first impressions briefly. I’ll be straight up honest, I haven’t stuck to this routine to a ‘T’. Yes, there’s been days where I’ve just managed to moisturise. And then some days where I’ve done the whole routine and more. The days I have done it properly my skin looks and feels amazing. Like right now, it’s a tad dry and could do with some extra moisture ~ but I also probably need to drink more water. Also, I gather we are quite a bit into winter, but the sales are happening next week. And you could also ask for some of these products for Christmas seeing as there still is some more time. So let’s dive into my winter skincare routine for 2017.
Winter Skincare Routine
The first step always is to cleanse. I’m using the Origins frothy face wash. I apply this to a slightly damp face and scrub it around with either a muslin cloth or my cleansing brush. Steer clear of the eyes, this hurts so much removing eye makeup. So I just stick with a micellar water of any kind to remove that. Because I use my cleansing brush I don’t find it necessary to exfoliate every time as it basically is exfoliating for me.
I then move onto the various The Ordinary products that I have. Personally still clueless if I’m doing this right or wrong, please someone let me know. But I start with Salicylic Acid Solution (Direct Acid), just because it feels like a toner and says to be used before creams. It’s good for congested skin. You apply this all over!
I then move onto Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution (Vitamin C Solution) which again is meant before creams and oils. This is good at brightening the skin and reduces signs of ageing. Again you apply this all over.
The fourth step is to use Niacinamide + Zinc (High-Strength Vitamin and Mineral Blemish Formula) this again is meant before creams and oils. It is perfect for pigmentation, congestion and spotty skin. You can either apply a generous amount to a blemish or all over the face. I like to do a combo when I have spots – which is very rarely now YAY! Lastly is the oil. This is because all the others need to be used before an oil. Plant-derived Squalane is a hydration serum and it’s very lightweight and sinks into the skin perfectly. Again all over the face.
With this so far it’s my winter skincare night routine. If I were to do this in the morning, I would skip all of The Ordinary products but the Plant-derived Squalene as this is perfect under makeup. And then the following I skip the Kiehl’s in the morning too.
So once this has all sunk in. I apply a nice amount of The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser ~ what a name. This has become such a favourite of mine. Literally obsessed with every bit of it. Again all over, even down the neck. And lastly, right before bed, I’ll apply a generous amount of the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Which is such a luxurious product, but I really do notice its benefits. It is amazing for hydration!
If I am feeling like a pamper I’ll apply a face mask after cleansing my skin. I’m currently loving The Body Shop expert face masks, L’Oreal clay mask and 7th Heaven’s. Also, a LUSH lip scrub is always a nice extra if I remember, perfect to prep for a red lip.
So there we have it. How I’m making sure my skin stays hydrated in the winter time. And you basically got a 2-in-1 as I told you my night and day routine.
